REDS Add Chisholm In Transfer
(FREDERICTON, NB) The defending Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey champion UNB REDS are adding veteran defender Josie Chisholm ahead of the 2024-2025 season.
The former 2nd Team AUS All-Star is joining the REDS as a transfer after four competitive seasons with the STFX X-Women and a season with ERC Ingolstad, of the German Women’s Hockey League.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Josie to the REDS family,” said REDS’ head coach Sarah Hilworth. “Her leadership on and off the ice, combined with her experience and skill as a defender, makes her a fantastic addition to our team. Josie’s passion for the game and commitment to her teammates will undoubtedly have an immediate and positive impact on our program.”
The Antigonish, NS, native spent five academic years with the X-Women, including the 2020-21 year when competition was suspended due to the pandemic.
In 96 regular season games with X, she scored six goals and added 37 assists.
A five-time U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian, she was named an AUS all-star in 2023.
“Once I decided to return to U SPORTS and finish my Engineering degree and university career, reaching out to Coach Hilworth was at the top of my list,” said Chisholm. “I’m looking forward to being part of the REDS family and having another shot at a national title with an amazing group.”
Chisholm spent the 2023-24 season in Germany, scoring seven goals and nine assists in 17 games with Ingolstad.
“Josie brings a wealth of experience from both her time in the AUS and her play in Germany,” said Hilworth. “Her achievements, including being a five-time Academic All-Canadian and an AUS champ, speaks volumes about her dedication and talent. We’re excited to see her bring that same drive and excellence to the REDS as we work towards another chance to win a national title.”
Chisholm says the growth of the UNB program, since its return to U SPORTS in 2018, is something that has impressed her.
“When UNB rejoined AUS back in 2018 it was clear they were going to be a prepared and professional program,” said the former X-Women captain. “After four years of rivalry play against the REDS I only grew more respect for their program.”
The 24-year-old will study Civil Engineering while attending UNB.
