SIR MAX AITKEN POOL
The Sir Max Aitken Pool, housed in the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium, has been home to the University of New Brunswick’s women’s and men’s swimming teams since its opening, in 1967.
The Reds’ teams train and compete in the SMA Pool year-round.
UNB teams have captured 39 Atlantic conference championships from their SMA Pool base, 28 men’s titles and 11 women’s crowns. Several Reds swimmers have also used the SMA Pool to propel themselves national university championship victories.
“The Sir Max Aitken Pool is an incredible asset. Having access to it, as well as the other athletic facilities here on campus, helps set UNB Swimming apart.”
Marta Belsh, Reds women’s and men’s swimming head coach
The Sir Max Aitken Pool features six 25 metre competition lanes, new starting blocks, a water temperature of 80°F, and a warm up/cool down area which also includes a diving tank.
The facility has hosted countless regional and provincial championship events over the years.
