(MONCTON, NB) The UNB REDS suffered their second straight loss, falling 2-0 to l'Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues Saturday night in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action, in Moncton.
UNB started slowly, with Moncton outshooting the REDS 11-4 in the opening period.
After a scoreless first 20 minutes, second-year forward Amelie Vachon (Ste-Blaise sur Richelieu, QC) put the home team on the board with a goal at the 9:29 mark of the second.
Just 21 seconds into the third period, Laura Tremblay (Quebec City, QC) doubled Moncton's lead with what would prove to be the game's final goal.
The REDS pressed late, but could not beat Annick Boudreau (Memramcook, NB) in the Moncton net.
Despite their slow start, UNB outshot Moncton 27-23, with Boudreau earning the win in net.
UNB's Cassie McCallum (Rothesay, NB) made 21 saves.
With the loss, UNB is now 10-3-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and now shares first place in the AUS standings with the Dal Tigers and STFX X-Women.
Moncton improves to 8-3-2-1 and sits fourth, behind the three co-leaders.
Moncton's next action comes Friday night when they visit Saint Mary's for a 7:00pm start.
The REDS return to home ice on Wednesday when they host Saint Thomas. Game time is 7:00pm.
