(FREDERICTON, NB) Rylee Strohm (Kingsville, ON) scored the winning goal, in a shootout, as the UNB REDS beat the St. Thomas Tommies 1-0 in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action, Saturday at Fredericton's Grant-Harvey Centre.
The puck appeared to get away from Strohm as she skated in on Tommies' goalie Katie Sweeney (Techumseh, ON) and it slid between Sweeney's pads and over the goal line.
The win was the ninth of the season for UNB.
Cassie McCallum (Rothesay, NB) made 33 saves in regulation and overtime for the win in the UNB net. Sweeney made 15.
First-year RED Alexandra Parvin (Burlington, ON) was a factor for UNB, going 12-for-15 in the faceoff circle. Olivia Eustace (Riverview, NB) and Payton Hargreaves (Whitby, ON) were both 10-for-16 at the dot.
With the win, the AUS-leading REDS are now 9-1-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) while the Tommies are 5-3-1-1 and part of a four-way tie for third place.
The REDS return to home ice on Friday when they host the STFX X-Women. Game time is 7:00pm.
St. Thomas goes on the road and visits Dalhousie on Saturday for a 7:00pm start.
