(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB Reds scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat the Dalhousie Tigers 4-2, in Halifax, on Saturday night.

Dal goalie Grace Beer (Oakville, ON) was forced to be sharp early, covering up a point blank shot by Rylee Strohm (Kingsville, ON) at the side of the net.

A short time later, the Tigers struck first.

Off a point shot that bounced off multiple sticks, and created chaos for a moment in front of REDS' goalie Cassie McCalllum (Rothesay, NB), Emma Bishop (Bedford, NS) pounced on the loose puck and trickled it into the net.

Dalhousie went on the power-play with nine minutes remaining in the period, but MacCallum, and the REDS' penalty kill stood up and kept it a 1-0 game. One of McCallum's saves came on a three on one.

At the end of the first, the Tigers were up 1-0.

In the second, the action started immediately with Lillian George (Nipissing First Nation) having a chance to tie the game all alone in the slot, but she missed.

The Tigers on a short powerplay nearly scored the second of the game but hit the post. It was so close, the goal light went on, but officials ruled no goal.

Robyn Brokenshier (St. Albert, AB) then found Hailey Jackson (Delburne, AB) in the slot from behind the net. Beer made the original save, but Sydney Oitomen (Missisauga, ON) was able to find the rebound and put it past a diving Beer.

The REDS kept the pressure on and almost scored again, on a two-on-one where Payton Hargreaves (Whitby, ON) fired a puck off the post.

Dal scored early in the third to restore their one goal lead, but UNB rallied.

Brokenshire tied the score 2-2 on a blast from the point and UNB took the lead a short time later on a goal by George.

Jackson added an empty-netter to round out the scoring.

The win, UNB's seventh straight after an opening night loss, solidifies their hold on first place in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

Dal is now 3-and-5 and sits fifth.

The Tigers visit Mount Allison on Friday while the REDS visit cross-campus rivals St. Thomas on Wednesday. Game time is 7:00pm.
