(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS scored a 5-1 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties, on Sunday afternoon, in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action at UNB's Aitken Centre.

Lindsey Smith (Onslow, NS) opened the scoring, despite her team having to kill three straight penalties in the moments prior.

Lauren Carter (Milton, ON) netted another goal to bring the UNB lead to 2-0.

More REDS penalties led to a powerplay goal for the Mounties, scored by captain Rory Aiken (Charlottetown, PE), that trimmed UNB's lead to a single goal.

"The penalties were there, there's nothing you can really do about it," said REDS head coach Sarah Hilworth. "You can't control the refs so we had to keep our heads in it and move forward."

Tamina Kehler (Chilliwack, BC) contributed a goal for the REDS, late in the first, as well as two assists in the third period. With those three points, Kehler moves into a tie for second in REDS women's hockey all-time scoring, with 59.

"It's very humbling." said Kehler, named Subway Player of the Game. "We're just trying to live up to a legacy while building our own."

Myah Bowal (Terrace, BC) and Payton Hargreaves (Whitby, ON) also found the back of the net for UNB.

With the win, the REDS remain unbeaten in regulation this season and are now 5-0-0-1, good for first place in the AUS standings.

"Every time we get on the ice, we're looking for another opportunity to be better and that's what we did today," Kehler said.

Mackenzie Keenan (Midhurst, ON), Ashley Stratton (Mount Pearl, NL), and Lauren O'Neil (Osgoode, ON) each recorded an assist to help the REDS in Sunday's win.

Mounties' goalie Kaitlyn Evelyn (Courtice, ON) stopped 38 of the 43 shots she faced, while Cassie McCallum (Rothesay, NB) allowed one goal on ten shots.

The Mounties will head back to Sackville to host the Dalhousie Tigers on Friday, while the REDS will travel to Moncton the same evening. Both games are scheduled for 7:00pm.
