(SACKVILLE, NB) Tamina Kehler (Chilliwack, BC) scored once and had two assists, Ashley Stratton (Mount Pearl, NL) scored twice, and Cassie McCallum (Rothesay, NB) made 13 saves as the UNB REDS shut-out the Mount Allison Mounties 8-0 on Friday night.

The REDS scored five times in the first period, including four goals in a less than four minute span to chase Mounties' starter Bianca Zak (Stonewall, MB) from the Mount Allison net after just 20 minutes.

UNB put 19 shots on Zak in the first period.

"I think tonight really showed our ability to possess the puck and make creative plays," said Kehler. "It definitly gave us the confidence we needed to put pucks in the net. I'm excited to carry that forward into the season.

Lauren Carter (Milton, ON), Melanie Drost (Nepean, ON), Talli Warren (Mundelville, NB), Marisa Valla (St. Catharines, ON) and Lily George (Nipissing First Nation) also scored for the REDS.

UNB outshot the Mounties 45-13

"We had a great game, from start to finish," said REDS head coach Sarah Hilworth. "It was fun to watch the players play free and fast. We started putting pucks in the net tonight and we'll need that continued confidence going forward."

With the win, UNB takes over top spot in the Atlantic University Sport standings, with two wins and a shootout loss in their first three games.

"It was a great team win tonight," said Stratton, named Subway Player of the Game. "We executed in many areas and found ways to put pucks in the net. We need to take this momentum into the next game and come out even stronger."

Up next for the REDS, a Saturday matinee in Halifax.

UNB visits the Saint Mary's Huskies for a 3:00pm start.

The Mounties will host the Huskies on Sunday. That game is scheduled for a 6:00pm start.
