(MONCTON, NB) Erica Plourde's (Pigeon Hill, NB) goal at 2:47 of overtime gave the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues a 3-2 victory over the UNB REDS in Moncton's final regular season game of their 2021-22 Atlantic University Sport schedule.

The REDS had trouble getting going against the Aigles Bleues, who limited them to 24 shots on goalkeeper Audrey Berthiaume (St-Bruno, QC).

"We didn't play a full 60-minute game," said REDS head coach Sarah Hilworth. "Credit to Moncton, they came out flying and really put pressure on us early. We need to clean up a couple things going into playoffs, and Moncton certainly gave us a playoff like matchup."

UNB had won the previous three meetings between the two teams.

Lianne Desforges (Clarence-Rockland, ON) gave the Aigles Bleues a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period.

Sydney Oitomen (Mississauga, ON) levelled the score in the second, before Moncton regained the lead with Janie Poitras' (Saint André, NB) powerplay goal at 13:44 of the third. The visitors responded less than two minutes later, Reagan Minor's (Dunnville, ON) goal forcing overtime.

"I think we did enough to earn a point, but Moncton did a great job of putting the pressure on us, not allowing us to play our game," said Hilworth. "We got the job done at the end of the day to make tomorrow's (Sunday's) match mean something."

In the end, Moncton put a total of 37 shots on first-year REDS netminder Cassie McCallum (Rothesay, NB).

"Cassie was fantastic this aft," said Hilworth. "For a first-year player to play a big game like that, she gave our team an opportunity to win. She made some great saves and I am excited to see how she continues to grow here."

Moncton, now 10-10-1-1, await word on the Atlantic University Sport playoff schedule, while the REDS, second in the AUS standings with a record of 14-3-1-2, return home to face the league-leading Saint Mary's Huskies, Sunday at 2:00pm. The Huskies sit two points up on the REDS heading into action on Sunday.
