Reds Hold Off Mounties

(SACKVILLE, NB) The UNB Reds built a 3-0 lead, then held on to beat the Mount Allison Mounties 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

 

After falling behind 3-0 the Mounties made a late push with two goals in the game's final five minutes.

 

UNB opened the scoring just over eight minutes in, when Amanda Desrochers (Winnipeg, MB) beat Mounties goalie Katie Mowbray (Whitby, ON).

 

The Reds increased their lead to 2-0 halfway through the second period, on a goal by Alayna Wagstaff (Olds, AB). Former Mountie Jennifer Bell (Miramichi, NB) grabbed an assist on the goal.

 

The score moved to 3-0 UNB when Sydney DesRochers (Woodstock, NB) scored just over a minute into the third period.

 

The Mounties started their comeback when freshman Sam Jarron (Ajax, ON) scored at 15:20 of the third.

 

The home team made it interesting when Maddy Koughan (Mermaid, PE) scored at 19:41, with the Mounties net empty.

 

Kendra Woodland (Kamloops, BC) made 43 saves on 45 shots for UNB, while Mowbray stopped 37 of 40 shots.

 

With the win, the Reds are now 10-7-3, and sitting in fourth place in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

 

The Mounties record falls to 3-16. They host UPEI on Wednesday, at 7:00pm.

 

The Reds travel to UPEI on Saturday. Face-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
