V-Reds men's soccer team tie UPEI 1-1

(Charlottetown, PEI) The UNB Varsity Reds men's soccer team came away with a 1-1 tie over the UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown.

The first goal of the game came from an excellent corner kick driven in by UNB's Kalen Park (Calgary, AB) to the big tall captain George Lawton (Bolton, UK), who put the ball into the net at the 59th minute.

The goal was Lawton's first of the season.

For the rest of the game both teams showed a lot of physicality but saw only one yellow card handed out.

It looked as if UNB would come away with the win but in the dying seconds of the game the Panthers' Harminder Singh scored on a free kick to tie the game.

Keepers Brandon Eagle (Edmonton, AB) for UNB and Brett Strba for UPEI each faced nine shots.

The Varsity Reds are now tied for 6th place in the standings with a 1-2-2 record.

UNB will next play on Friday, October 2nd at the BMO Centre when they host the Aigles bleus – game time is 7:15 pm.
