The Phillips Sports Leadership Academy returns for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Jon Crossland, head coach of the REDS women’s soccer team, and Sarah Hilworth, head coach of the REDS women’s hockey team, remain the PSLA’s lead facilitators, and will provide content, instruction and guidance through all levels of the Academy.

R.I.S.E.
The Phillips Sports Leadership Academy conducts four levels of programming. Each level is directed to student-athletes as they move through their university careers and their U SPORTS eligibility.
R – RESPONSIBLE
1st year student-athletes
This group will meet twice each semester for a series of speakers and PSLA panels.
Topics to include:
- Responsibility of being a student-athlete
- Student-athlete success
- Mid-season check-in
- Role of a leader
- Joint Session – 1st semester
- Joint Session – 2nd semester
I – IMPACTFUL
2nd year student-athletes
This group will meet three times each semester for a series of speakers and PSLA panels.
Topics to include:
- Introduction
- Choices and Commitment
- Confidence
- Mid-season Panel
- Credible Character
- Composure
- End of season Panel
S – SENIOR LEADERS
3rd & 4th year student-athletes
This group will meet three times each semester for a series of speakers and PSLA panels.

- Candor and Communication
- Connection
- Mid-season Panel
- Refocuser
- Coaches Panel
- End of season Panel
E – ELITE LEADERS
4th & 5th year student-athletes
This group will meet 4-6 times each semester for a series of speakers and PSLA panels. This group will also be responsible for executing a community project.
