The 2023-24 Atlantic University Sport season marks the third for Joe Salerno as head coach of the UNB REDS.

A native of Barre, Vermont, Salerno became the head coach of the REDS on May 12, 2021.

In his first season, shortened by lingering pandemic concerns, Salerno guided the REDS to a 7-and-8 record and a quarter-final berth at the AUS Championship tournament. He followed that with a 7-and-13 record in 2022-23 and another quarter-final berth in the conference championship tournament.

Prior to joining the REDS, Salerno assembled an impressive resume which features professional and international experience.

In the fall and winter of 2020-2021, Salerno served as the head coach of Syria's national men's team. In qualifying for the FIBA Asia Cup, Salerno coached the Syrians, then ranked 96th in the world, to a massive upset of No. 22 Iran.

Before joining the Syrian national team, Salerno spent three seasons as head coach of the Moncton Magic, of the National Basketball League of Canada. Salerno's run in Moncton included winning the 2019 NBL Canada championship. Prior to that, he served six seasons as head coach and vice president of player personnel for the NBL's Island Storm, and two seasons with the Vermont Frost Heaves, of the Premier Basketball League, where he served one season as assistant coach and one as head coach.

Joe is married. He and his wife, Darci, have two children. A son, Camden, and a daughter, Alexandra.
