Erin Ingalls, of the women’s basketball team, is the UNB REDS/Papa John’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week.
The fourth-year REDS wing played a critical role in UNB's split last week in a pair of games against Acadia.
In Wednesday’s close 83-76 loss in Wolfville, Ingalls scored a career-high 29 points on an impressive 12-of-13 shooting from the field. She also had 14 rebounds to record a double-double.
In Saturday’s dramatic 91-87 overtime win over the Axewomen, Ingalls double-doubled again, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
“Erin had a huge week for us," said REDS’ head coach Erin McAleenan. “On Wednesday, she had a monster night at the offensive end, but it is the responsibility and load she carries for us at the defensive end that is most impressive. Erin did a great job of keeping Acadia’s best player below her season average Wednesday night. Then on Saturday, with a change of our tactics, Erin was all over the court being very disruptive and helping us get a lot of key stops in our team defense. Erin consistently shows that she is the best defender in the league this season. Erin has been a great leader for us all season, but this past week she took it to another level.”
Ingalls and her REDS teammates are now preparing for this weekend’s AUS Championships, in Halifax.
