Blake Kingston, of the men’s swimming team, is the UNB REDS/Papa John’s Pizza male Athlete of the Week.
The third-year RED won the men’s 100 and 200 metre breaststroke events at the AUS Championships.
His victory in the 100-metres came in a new AUS record time of 1:01.75.
Kingston earned the silver medal in the men’s 50-metre breaststroke and helped UNB grab the bronze medal in the men’s 4-by-100-metre freestyle relay.
Kingston qualified in all three events for the U SPORTS Championships.
“Blake had a bit of a rocky season with injuries, so we had to modify his training,” said REDS head coach Marta Belsh. “I knew he was ready to race, the only question was how well he could put races together. Obviously, he did that well.”
Kingston and some of his REDS teammates now prepare for the national championships, at McGill University, March 7-9.
