REDS 6th In London
(LONDON, ON) Ivy Bialowis (Ottawa, ON) was the top UNB REDS finisher, placing 12th, in the women's eight-kilometre race at the Vigars and Salters Invitational, hosted by Western University, in London, Ontario.
The race was won by the University of Windsor's Madelyn Eybergen.
Bialowis' time of 31:24.6 was more than 90 seconds off Eybergen's winning time of 29:50.2.
UNB's Emily Doucet (Aldouane, NB) was 24th in the field of 111, while Georgia Bernhard (Guelph, ON) was 26th.
"It was a solid bunch of runs from our women's group today," said REDS' head coach Chris Belof. "Ivy did a great job of leading, and she'll continue to grow as her season continues."
"It was a good opener in tough conditions," said Bialowis. "I started out controlled, because of the heat, and slowly moved through the pack."
Claire Hamilton (Kingston, ON) ran 54th and Alexandra Benevides (Antigonish, NS) was 78th.
The REDS women were sixth of 11 in the team standings.
"Claire and Alexandra ran very well in their first U SPORTS races," said Belof. "We're excited to continue preparing for a challenging AUS championship meet."
The next event on the Atlantic University Sport women's cross country schedule is October 5th, in Moncton.
"I'm looking forward to AUS, in just over a month," said Bialowis. "It's time to get back to training and sharpen up for championship season."
The Atlantic conference championship meet, hosted by Memorial, goes October 26th, in St. John's.
