REDS Claim Team Bronze At AUS Championship
(MONCTON, NB) The UNB REDS captured the bronze medal at the 2021 Atlantic University Sport Women's Cross Country Championship, in Moncton, on Saturday.
The REDS were led by Ivy Bialowis, who finished 12th overall, just ahead of teammate Emily Trites, who ran 14th.
UNB's Emily Doucet and Natasha Vatcher ran 23rd and 24th, respectively, while Hilary Bishop was 33rd.
Hannah Haynes-MacDonald was 37th and Lydia Pearson was 41st.
"I was very impressed with our women's group," said Chris Belof, head coach of the REDS. "This signals massive improvement and it's a great team result. Ivy and Emily had impressive runs. Both executed their race plans well and moved up throughout the race."
The REDS' top five finishes counted towards the team competition, where UNB edged UPEI by just four points.
"Our supporting cast was equally important in getting the job done as a team," said Belof. "It's a big step for our women's program, and momentum we want to build on."
St FX won the women's team title. Dal was second.
