(FREDERICTON, NB) Outside hitter and middle Morgan White is joining the UNB Reds women’s volleyball team’s recruiting class of 2020.

The Charlottetown native has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the Reds ahead of the 2020-21 Atlantic University Sport season.

“I could tell right away, during my campus tour, that UNB offered a great balance between athletics and academics,” said White. “Between UNB itself and the Reds team, it was a great atmosphere to be in.”

White was a member of the Colonel Gray High School Colonels team, and team captain in her Grade 12 year, that won Prince Edward Island School Athletic Association AAA titles in 2019 and 2020. She was named provincial tournament MVP both years.

“Morgan comes to the Reds with a strong work ethic and outstanding determination,” said Reds head coach Christine Biggs. “Her confidence and drive to reach the next level are outstanding virtues that we’re excited to add to our Reds roster.”

Along with an impressive high school career, White has been a member of Redrock club indoor and beach teams, as well as the Canes Volleyball Club.

In 2019, White was named Volleyball PEI’s U17 female athlete of the year. In 2018, she earned Volleyball PEI’s U16 female athlete of the year honours.

“I’ll bring a hard-working and positive attitude, along with leadership on and off the court,” said White. “I have an aggressive skill-set, I’m a highly motivated athlete, and I always have a team-first attitude.”

In the short term, White says she’ll work hard in an effort to grow as a player. Long term, she’s set her sights on becoming an impact player with the Reds.

“I want to be a leader for my teammates as we work together to become one of the best teams in the conference.”

White will study in the Faculty of Arts while attending UNB.
