(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Reds women’s volleyball team is adding 5’9” outside hitter Mackenzie Hartle to their 2020 recruiting class.

Hartle, an 18-year-old, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the Reds ahead of the 2020-21 Atlantic University Sport season.

Hartle is completing her Grade 12 year at Winnipeg’s Transcona Collegiate Institute, having helped the Titans to a 10-2 regular season record and an appearance in the city league semi-finals.

In 2017, she was named to Team Manitoba and competed at the National Team Cup Challenge, in Richmond, BC.

Hartle was named a provincial all-star in 2017, and again this past season.

“What appealed to me was the teammates I’d have in Fredericton,” said Hartle. “Making the decision to commit to UNB was easy, knowing I’d be creating a second family with my teammates.”

Hartle has been a member of U18 teams with both the Junior Bisons club and the Junior Wesmen club.

“Mackenzie joins us from a highly competitive club program and school system,” said Reds head coach Christine Biggs. “She’s got a well-rounded skill set, a high volleyball IQ, and a fierce competitive nature. We’re excited to see the impact Mack will make on the court as an outside, and as a leader in the team room.”

“I think I’ll bring a strong, positive and competitive attitude to the team,” said Hartle. “As a Red, I want to push and become the best team in the conference.”

Hartle will study in the Faculty of Arts while attending UNB.
