(HALIFAX, NS) The U SPORTS No. 2 ranked Dalhousie Tigers defeated the UNB Reds 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers won with scores of 25-14, 25-18, 27-25.

Dalhousie started the match well, going on an 11-0 run on the strength of Victoria Turcot's (Halifax, NS) serving and unforced UNB errors. The Reds were finally able to find some traction and inch their way back set, but couldn't slow the Tigers momentum. Dalhousie took the first set 25-14.

The Tigers went on another rolling start in the second set, earning six-straight points before a kill from Victoria Eadle (Gallagher Ridge, NB) put UNB on the board. Dalhousie continued to control the pace of play in the second and closed out the set 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead.

UNB continued to play catch up in the third set, and were down six points at the technical timeout, midway through the third. While the Reds were down, they weren't out, and battled to tie the set at 17, thanks to a seven-point serving run by Eadle and excellent play at the net by Adora Rooyakkers (Port Hawkesbury, NS). The Reds pulled ahead to lead for the first time in the match, up 22-20.

Both teams would trade one-point leads until the Tigers pulled ahead and took the third and final set 27-25.

Both teams played well defensively, with UNB recording 53 digs and Dal 50.

Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS) earned Subway Player of the Game honours. The setter was steady for the Tigers all game, recording 30 assists, seven digs and two kills. Sarah Dawe (Mount Pearl, NL) had a match-high 11 kills for Dalhousie, and added 11 digs and a block, while Julie Moore (Halifax, NS) had a match-high 12 digs.

Robyn Anderson (Jaffray, BC) had five kills, two digs and an ace for the Reds, while Eadle recorded a team-high six kills and added six digs.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 13-and-0 in regular season play. The Reds are now 6-6.

Both teams are back in action, at home, next weekend. The Tigers host Moncton, while UNB hosts Acadia. Both matches are at 7:30pm.
