UNB Lands BC Setting Recruit
Paige Lehto to join Varsity Reds
(FREDERICTON, NB) From North Vancouver to Fredericton’s south side, Paige Lehto is making a big change.
While her postal code and time zone will change, one thing that won’t is volleyball.
Lehto has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent to join the UNB Varsity Reds women’s volleyball team, beginning in September.
Lehto is currently a setter for North Vancouver’s BCO U17/18 Elite squad.
BCO is recognized as one of the best volleyball programs in the country, producing no fewer than ten national women’s team members since the mid 1980s. In the past decade, BCO teams have won more than two dozen medals at British Columbia championships and another dozen at national championship tournaments.
In 2016, Lehto was a member of the BCO team that earned a gold medal at the Canadian Club Team National Championships, as well as a bronze medal at the British Columbia championships.
Lehto has captained the senior girls volleyball team at North Vancouver’s Windsor Secondary School since 2015, earning team MVP honours in 2015 and 2016.
In 2016, she became the first Windsor Secondary girls volleyball player to be named to a British Columbia high school 1st all-star team.
“After visiting the campus and spending time with the coaches and team, the decision to join UNB’s women’s volleyball program was an easy one to make,” said Lehto. “I’m looking forward to becoming a member of the Varsity Reds and the UNB family.”
“We’re really excited to add Paige to our roster in the coming season,” said Varsity Reds head coach Jilliane Portelli. “She is a fantastic athlete who will be a great fit with our program.”
Lehto plans on studying Sociology.
She’ll join the Varsity Reds beginning in the 2017-2018 Atlantic University Sport season.
