UNB Falls At Dal

(HALIFAX, NS) The Dalhousie Tigers used a well-balanced attack to top the UNB Varsity Reds 3-0 on Saturday. The Tigers won 25-23, 25-10, 25-14.

Setter Courtney Baker(Bridgewater, NS) and outside hitter Ann Dunn-Suen(Halifax, NS) led the way for Dalhousie with 12 kills each. Middle hitter Robyn Anderson(Fernie, BC) finished with seven for UNB.

Both teams played strong at the net in a competitive first set.

The Varsity Reds maintained the lead for the majority of the opener, led by Anderson with five kills and a .500 hitting percentage.

The Tigers took their first lead at 20-19 and didn't relinquish it from there, winning the first set. Baker and Dunn-Suen were the catalysts for the Tigers, with five kills each.

The hosts picked up where they left off at the end of the first set, with a .407 hitting percentage in the second set.

Led by Baker and outside hitter Mieke DuMont(Kamloops, BC), they took an early 6-1 lead and didn't look back. Both players had two kills early and commanded net play.

The third set was tied at three early, with a number of long rallies to begin play. Dalhousie then ran nine straight points on their way to the set win and the match.

Middle hitter Victoria Haworth(Waverly, NS) led the way for the Tigers with three critical blocks. Outside hitter Megan Kuciak(Ottawa, ON) played valiantly in the set for UNB, with three kills.

With the win, Dal improves to 14-0, good for first place in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

The Varsity Reds are now 0-15.

UNB is back in action on Wednesday, hosting Moncton. First serve, at the Richard J. Currie Center, is scheduled for 7:00pm. This game was originally scheduled for January 13th, but had to be postponed.

Dal's next game takes place on the road, Friday, Memorial.
