(FREDERICTON, NB) The Memorial Sea-Hawks scored a 3-0 win over the UNB Varsity Reds on Friday evening.

The Sea-Hawks sweep came with scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-14, in the first of three weekend matches between the sides.

With the win, Memorial improves to 9-3.

The loss drops the Varsity Reds to 0-11.

Jill Snow(Bishop's Falls, NL) led the Sea-Hawks with 14 kills, 10 digs and 3 aces. She was named the Subway Player of the Game.

Kassandra Menzies(Spirit River, AB) and Kierstin Fey(Selkirk, MB) contributed 12 and 11 digs respectively for Memorial.

Maggie McLenahan(Oromocto, NB) had 11 digs for the Varsity Reds, while Megan Kuciak(Ottawa, ON) served 3 aces and Natalie Arsenault(Moncton, NB) had 20 assists.

"We came in pretty prepared," said Snow. "We're told never to underestimate any team, and I think that we took care of business and took care of ourselves."

"It's more difficult than you would think," she says, of playing a team still looking for its first win of the season. "We probably put more time and effort into games like that, that you have to be sure to win."

Varsity Reds interim head coach James Cress said his team struggled with its composure.

"I thought we started all three sets with some flow," he said. "We were battling point for point, a couple times we actually pulled ahead. But in the later parts of the set we became rigid and a little more tense."

Cress is hoping things are different come Saturday.

"We need to come back in a more relaxed state and just play the game, find some of our flow, some of the things we were working on in practice."

Despite their record, Snow says the Varsity Reds can be dangerous.

"We can't let our game drop at any point. If we do, they'll take advantage of that," she said. "They're a young team, but they're definitely improving. They've improved so much since last time we played them."

The Varsity Reds and Sea-Hawks meet again on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 6:00pm Atlantic time.
