Sea-Hawks Sweep Weekend Series

Sea-Hawks Sweep Weekend Series

(ST. JOHN'S, NL) The visit to an island, in the north Atlantic, in late January, was the easy part for the UNB Varsity Reds.

Facing the Memorial Sea-Hawks was the hard part.

The Sea-Hawks completed a weekend sweep of the VReds with a 3-0 win, on Sunday.

Memorial improves to 8-and-5 with the three match sweep and moves into second place in the AUS standings.

The Varsity Reds fall to 3-and-11, good for fifth.

The teams exchanged points throughout the opening set, but Memorial was able to take an early lead behind a couple of big kills from Jill Snow. Memorial used the momentum to win the first set 25-21.

The Sea-Hawks followed the first set victory with a very strong second set, controlling the majority of the play and cruising to a 25-10 victory.

UNB refocused for the third set and were led by Megan Kuciak with 7 kills, 7 digs, and 10.5 points. Olivia Witteveen was also strong for UNB, with 23 assists and 17 digs.

Memorial would prove to be too strong for the Varsity Reds and completed the sweep… their third this weekend… with a 25-18 win.

The Sea-Hawks are in Halifax next weekend to take on the first place Dalhousie Tigers, while UNB has the weekend off.
