Sea Hawks Fly Past Varsity Reds

(ST. JOHN'S, NL) The Memorial University Sea Hawks made quick work of the UNB Varsity Reds, sweeping the visitors 3-0.

Memorial won 25-19, 25-15 and 25-10, in the first of three weekend matches between the two sides.

The loss drops UNB's record to 3-and-9 on the season.

Memorial jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first set, which forced UNB into an early timeout.

The VReds were able to re-group and cut into the Sea Hawks lead, but it wouldn't be enough as the Sea-Hawks won the first set.

The Sea-Hawks once again jumped out to an early lead in the second, a lead they were able to maintain throughout the set.

It was much of the same in the final set, as the hosts won 25-10, controlling the final game from start to finish.

Kier Fey, who finished with 12 kills, 3 aces, 3 digs and 15.5 points, led the Sea Hawks and was named MUN's Subway Player of the Game.

UNB got strong performances from Megan Kuciak and Molly Gallibois.

Kuciak scored 9 points for the Varsity Reds, while registering 9 kills and 3 digs. Gallibois was named Player of the Game for UNB, finishing with a team high 8 digs.

The second game of the three game series takes places Saturday, at 5:30PM Atlantic.
