Varsity Reds pick up straight set win against les Aigles Bleues
UNB picks up a strong win in straight sets
(MONCTON, N.B.) Les Aigles Bleues de l'Université de Moncton (3-11, 5th in AUS) worked hard, but they couldn't put up the big points and lost 3-0 to the UNB Varsity Reds (7-5, 2nd in AUS) in women's volleyball action at the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud gymnasium Friday night.
Moncton lost 25-21, 25-20 and 25-16. Leading the offence for les Aigles Bleues were Christelle Bertin with 29 attacks and Geneviève LeBlanc with 26. LeBlanc also put up 10 digs. Leading scoring for the Varsity Reds was Victoria Eadle with 30 attacks. Paige Nelmes had 10 digs as well.
"We battled in the first set, but we had a bit of difficulty afterwards," said Annie LeBlanc. "We still have things to improve on to come out on top in the last two outings."
"We didn't finish the sets," said Moncton head coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll. "We couldn't put up the points at the end. We served well and we had good reception, but we couldn't put up those last points. It's the story of our season."
Les Aigles Bleues will travel to Halifax to play the Dalhousie Tigers next Friday.
The Varsity Reds travel to play the Acadia Axewomen on Saturday, January 24, at 3pm.
