UNB earns win against UdeM
December 1, 2012
The V-Reds’ minds were nowhere but the court during tonight’s match against AUS second ranked UdeM.
In Coach Jilliane Goulet’s opinion this was UNB’s best match yet. With spectacular setting from Paige Paulsen, leading to the powerful kills from Vanja Mitrovic and Rebecca Glancy, the first set was a tight one with continuous rallies; Coach Goulet also brought attention to the fact that the team’s back row was stepping up and taking charge when the front row couldn’t quite make it in time, with big points from, Paige Neimes, Emma Hunt and Rebecca Glancy. The V-Reds took the set 25-20.
The second set had a lot more back and forth, with neither UNB nor UdeM ever leading by more than two. With some big digs by Vanja Mitrovic, Paige Neimes and Monica Jones, UNB stayed within reach of the win for the second set. With some big points from Megan Dudeck, some powerful kills from Vanja Mitrovic, and Rebecca Glancy, the V-Reds win the second set as well with a score of 26-24 in extra points.
With the fire burning under the V-Reds, the power continued, with Tessa Geurts, Celina Abba, and Paige Pulsen earning some points for UNB, keeping the Aigles Bleu flightless. Big blocks from Rebecca Glancy, Emma Hunt, and Paige Neimes held UdeM to ten points the entire set. Earning points to win the match, Vanja Mitrovic, Emma Hunt, and Rebecca Glancy kept the powerful kills raining down on UdeM.
The set ended with a score of 25-10, leaving the V-Reds with the win, their third win this season, defeating AUS ranked second placed UdeM Aigles Bleues.
