Volleyball earns the win at home
November 19, 2012
The V-Reds women’s volleyball team met Acadia Axewomen today on the court at the Richard J. Currie Center. The first set was a tight one, with some powerful kills by Amber Gamblin, UNB’s player of the match. Keeping the set close, UNB’s total attempts outnumbered Acadia’s 39 to 27. Despite their tenacity; UNB lost the first set at a close 26-24.
Both Acadia and UNB had a very consistent match. After losing the first set, there was a fire ignited in the V-Reds, Vanja Mitrovic and Rebecca Glancy were power housing at the net, with kill after kill. Keeping points away from Acadia, Amber Gamblin and Monica Jones had their win in sight, with dig after dig, keeping the rallies going, leading to a 25-15 win in the second set.
Keeping their heads in the game, the fire continued to burn for the V-Reds, with Acadia pushing back after losing the second set, keeping the V-Reds on their toes, forcing Celina Abba and Paige Paulsen to earn successful block after block at the net, keeping the V-Reds ahead with the win 25-19, bringing the game into the fourth set.
The fourth and final set was almost a replay of the third, with some dead on sets from Paige Paulsen leading to more powerful kills from Celina Abba and Paige Nelmes. Keeping UNB in the lead, Vanja Mitrovic and Paige Neimes also had some nice digs, keeping Acadia at bay, taking the set and therefore the match 25-18.
The V-Reds can be caught in action this upcoming weekend with four games in Montreal; their next home game is December first at the Currie Center, against Moncton.
