UNB Womenâ??s Volleyball Adds Local Recruit - Murphy commits to Varsity Reds
The women’s V-Reds volleyball team is pleased to announce that Fredericton-native, Kristyn Murphy, will be joining the roster in September. Murphy is a 5’9” setter and a member of the Reds Volleyball Club and Fredericton High School Black Kats Teams. Murphy has already had a lot of success throughout her volleyball career and has won three provincial championships so far with the FHS Black Kats (2009, 2010 and 2011). Murphy has also received team MVP honors on her U14, U16, U17 and U18 Reds Volleyball club teams and has won two provincial championships with the club in 2009 & 2010. Additionally, Murphy has been a member of the New Brunswick Provincial Elite program for three years and competed in the National Team Challenge Cup U18 tournament in Winnipeg, Manitoba last summer.

Murphy commented, “I’ve always heard great things about the Varsity Reds Volleyball program as well as the academics at UNB which made this decision very easy for me. The opportunity to play in such a great new facility with a great group of girls and coaching staff makes me very excited for my upcoming years. UNB has exactly what I am looking for in furthering my education and I am very excited and honored to have the opportunity to play in my hometown.”

UNB’s athletic director John Richard commented, “We are very excited to have Kristyn commit to our program. Kristyn is a very physical athlete and will add size and depth to our roster. She is one of the top athletes in the province and has the potential to be a very strong setter in the AUS; we are extremely pleased she has decided to stay in Fredericton to continue her volleyball career at UNB.”
