There are a lot of new faces on the UNB Varsity Reds women's volleyball team this season. We talk to rookie Victoria Eadle about choosing UNB and wanting to make her family proud.

You're originally from Moncton. Why did you choose UNB?

I travelled up to the Fredericton to play for the club here and it just seemed like the perfect fit. I was always coming to Fredericton for three years, and then I played for Coach Goulet in the summer before I came to university. I just love the school and the atmosphere here.

What do you miss about home?

Seeing my family, because we are such a close family. I also miss my friends... And definitely the home-cooked meals!

Which are you studying? Any idea on what you'd like to do after university?

Kinesiology. I want to stick with the sports area, but I'm not sure if I want to be a coach or a gym teacher... Anything with sport, really. I can also imagine working here at UNB.

What do you like most about UNB?

I like the schedule - our classes, the atmosphere, the people and the team, of course. They make me feel at home, really.

Was it difficult to make friends at first?

No, not really. I'm in most of the same classes as the other first years on the team, which is nice. So we're all meeting new people together.

Did you know any of your teammates before?

I knew some of the girls because I played with their sisters before.

Is it difficult to handle university and volleyball at the same time?

It has been, but I'm getting through it. There are times when we travel and it's difficult to study - like when you're on an eight-hour bus drive for example - and then with all the practices... But I am managing, somehow!

What has been your favourite moment at UNB so far?

I think my first road trip with the team - getting to know the girls.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I don't have any spare time, really! It's just study, volleyball, school.

Do you have a hero?

I would say my dad, really, because he wants me to succeed and be here. I am actually the first one of my family to go to university, so this is a big deal for him. I want him to be proud of me. He is like my role model, really.
