Last Week:
The Varsity Reds trained all week before travelling to Halifax early on Saturday morning to take part in the Dalhousie Invitational being hosted at the Dalplex. UNB played Saturday against STFX at 3:00pm and DALHOUSIE at 7:30pm. On Sunday the V-Reds played SAINT MARY’S at 10:00am and ACADIA at 2:30pm. The 2009-10 1st Team Conference All-Star started training this past week with the squad and is expected to re-join the team on-court in competition sometime in October. Coach’s Comments:
“Against STFX I thought we played pretty well at times but struggled to pass and set the ball with any consistency. Rookie left-side Taylor MacDonald coming into the match early and being one of our top players was a positive for sure as was rookie middle Celina Abba’s play. Against Dalhousie another good start was followed by us struggling to pass the ball most of the remaining part of the match. Then to have Erica Hay go down was challenging as well. To have such a commanding lead in game four, looking to push it to five, and go on and lose like that was tough for our group. I thought Jill Blanchard capped off a strong first day with another good match. On Sunday we didn’t have much spark and combined with our struggles to pass and set the ball with any consistency we weren’t going to get any results. We only have two weeks to work on so many things before we host RMC, but I like our group and I’m confident we can rebound and execute much better next time out.”
