UNB Women??s Volleyball Program Adds another New Brunswick Recruit
After receiving verbal commitments from CIS transfer setter Amanda Bakker of Winnipeg and middle Celina Abba of Fredericton in December, the UNB Varsity Reds Women’s Volleyball program have now confirmed a third recruit planning to join the team for next season. Taylor MacDonald of Bathurst will play for the V-Reds starting September 2010.
MacDonald is a 5’11” left-side player who currently plays club for Bathurst High School and is a member of the Chaleur Volleyball Club. She has spent the last few summers with Volleyball New Brunswick’s Provincial Elite program and this summer plans to suit up for Team New Brunswick’s 18U NTCC provincial team. In December she led her CVC 18U Club team to a provincial silver medal while being named a Championship All-Star at the Volleyball NB Provincial Championships. At the high school she excels in varsity soccer, basketball, track and field as well as volleyball.
In addition to being a strong athlete, MacDonald is an exceptional student and will enter the Bachelor of Science program at UNB. An honours student at Bathurst High School, she has accepted the prestigious four-year UNB President’s Scholarship.
Taylor MacDonald commented “I am excited about my upcoming freshmen year at UNB! I feel that is the right team for me to grow and develop with in the future. I'm glad that I am staying in New Brunswick where I know I will have a lot of local and provincial support. The new facility looks spectacular and it will be an honour and a privilege to train and compete in."
Head Coach John Richard commented, “We are so thrilled to get this commitment from such an exceptional student-athlete. With what Taylor has been able to accomplish in the classroom along with her tremendous athletic upside, I feel we have secured exactly the type individual we strive to find each year. Once she is given the opportunity and experience within our program we feel she can become a strong university player. I consider her and Celina Abba the top two grade 12 players in our province and to get both of them bodes well for our future.”
