Langille Equals Record At UNB Invitational
(SAINT JOHN, NB) Jared Howse and Jillian Langille put in school record performances to highlight the final day of competition at the UNB Invitational.
The meet, held at the Irving Oil Field House in Saint John, was the fifth event on the Atlantic University Sport track and field schedule for 2023-2024.
Howse won the men’s 1000-metres in a UNB record time of 2:24.71, which moved him into first place in rankings for the event in the AUS and second place in U SPORTS.
Langille won the women’s 60-metres in a time of 7.67 seconds, equalling her own UNB record.
On the field, Thomas Vickers finished second in the men’s weight throw and is now ranked 2nd in the AUS in the event. Julia Leblanc won the women’s pentathlon and is now ranked 3rd in the AUS.
Also on the track, UNB’s Shelby MacIsaac was third in the women’s 300-metres, finishing behind a pair of runners from Laval. MacIsaac is now the top-ranked 300-metre runner in the AUS. Peighton Johnson ran fifth today and is now ranked 4th in the AUS.
“It was an exciting weekend on the women’s side, both across our relays and multiple individual performances,” said Chris Belof, head coach of the REDS. “The women’s team continues to get better each week and will be poised to be a top three program at the AUS Championships at the end of the month.”
In the men’s mile, Mitchell Kean was second. His time of 4:11.93 ranks him 2nd in the AUS over 1500-metres.
“On the men’s side, we saw both our 4-by-200 and 4-by-800 relay programs take the first step towards being national qualifiers and AUS contenders,” said Belof. “There were numerous individual performances this weekend that showed the group is trending in the right direction and will be ready to compete at the conference championships.”
There are two more meets on the AUS calendar before the AUS Championships, host by l’Université de Moncton, February 23rd and 24th.
