Dubé Chooses Hometown REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s track and field team is naming Fredericton sprinter Sophie Dubé to their recruiting class of 2023.
Dubé has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2023-2024 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Sophie comes to UNB from great club and school programs, and we’re excited to have her joining our women’s program in 2023,” said Chris Belof, head coach of the REDS’ track and field and cross country teams.
“Growing up as a multi-sport athlete in Fredericton, the UNB REDS have always had a strong connection to the clubs I have participated in,” said Dubé. “I’ve had the chance to train alongside some great REDS athletes and I am very excited to join this strong team.”
The 17-year-old is finishing her Grade 12 year at Fredericton’s École Sainte-Anne.
In 2022, Dubé was a member of Team NB at the Canadian Legion Youth Championships, participating in the 400-metres, 4-by-100m and 4-by-400m relay, and was a silver medalist in the 400-metres at the 2022 New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association Track and Field Championships.
“I am a dedicated athlete with a strong work ethic and I feel I’ll be a great asset as a sprinter and relay runner,” said Dubé.
“Sophie will be an exciting addition to our women’s sprint program and will be a key member in our relay group and long sprint group at the AUS and U SPORTS levels,” said Coach Belof.
Dubé says her short-term goal with the REDS is to achieve personal best performances in her rookie season. Long-term, she has sights on contributing to the team’s success at the AUS and U SPORTS levels.
Dubé will study Engineering while attending UNB.
