Annear and Leblanc Honoured by AUS
(MONCTON, NB) At the Subway AUS Track and Field Championships, a pair of gold medal finishes and conference 1st team AUS all-stars highlighted the UNB Varsity Reds women's team's weekend.
Grace Annear won the 600-metres(in 1:31.20, a new UNB and AUS record) and 1000-metres.
Her victory in the 600, qualified her for the national championships, and ranks her 1st in Canada, heading into the CIS meet. She qualified in the 1000m as well.
Tess McDonald repeated as the silver medalist and AUS 2nd team all-star in triple jump, with a best jump of 11.52m. This result ranks McDonald 10th in Canada, and secured her entry at the national championships.
All three-relay events were successful for the VReds.
The top result was a silver medal and AUS 2nd team all-star status for the 4x400-metres team of Victoria LeBlanc, Ashley Gallagher, Nathalie Cecire, and Grace Annear. Their time of 4:01.32s smashed the previous UNB record of 4:07.62s, set back in 2013.
The 4x200-metre team of LeBlanc, Sydney MacDonald, Hailee Cook, and McDonald, in a time of 1:48.31s, and the 4x800-metre team of Cecire, Catherine Tremblay, Priya Bhutani, and Cailie Mcguire, in a time of 10:04.06,s both won bronze medals.
Annear was named the AUS female track athlete of the year.
Victoria LeBlanc was recognized as the AUS rookie of the year. She earned silver and bronze medals on relay teams.
The women's team placed third overall in the conference, with 57 points. Dalhousie won the team championship with 183 points, followed by StFX with 91 points.
"This was a great AUS championships for our team," said Varsity Reds head coach Jason Reindl. "Two gold medals for Annear, two major award winners in Annear and LeBlanc, two athletes heading to CIS, an AUS record, and four UNB records… I am extremely happy with how this group performed."

The CIS championships will be taking place March 10th-12th, in Toronto, hosted by York University.
