UNB Track Prepping For AUS Championship Meet

(UNDATED) The UNB Varsity Reds track and field team went in a number of different directions on the weekend.

One athlete went to Boston, to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. A group was in Halifax, for the Saint Mary's Open, and another group got some quality training and recovery time at home.

In Boston, Grace Annear ran the 800m and 1000m.

She ran a personal best of 2:07.66s in the 800m, which is a new provincial record, but came up just short of the CIS qualifying standard of 2:07.25s.

Annear refocused for the 1000m, and ran 2:51.91s, taking nearly ten seconds off the UNB school record of 3:01.01.

In Halifax, Sydney MacDonald improved her own school record in the 60m, from 8.08s to 8.04s. MacDonald also recorded times of 9.52s in the 60m hurdles, 4.89m in the long jump, and 1.50m in the high jump. She ran a great anchor leg in the 4x200m.

Personal bests also came to Victoria LeBlanc, in the 300m(42.91s), Ashley Gallagher, in the 300m(43.68s), Hailiee Cook, in the triple jump(10.13m), and Nadia Wysote, in the 300m(44.64s) and 600m(1:44.18s).

"We always try to reflect on the team's performances after the competition and while we didn't come out as perfect as we would have liked it was a great weekend with some amazing results in Boston and Halifax," said Varsity Reds head coach Jason Reindl. "We have to zone in on the AUS championships, in two weeks."
