UNB Records Fall At McGill Meet
(MONTREAL, QC) The UNB Varsity Reds had a successful weekend in Montreal, at the McGill Team Challenge.
The VReds finished 6th out of 17 university teams, recorded five new school records and saw many athletes improve their season best performances.
In the pentathlon, which is 5 events over a single day, Sydney MacDonald improved her school record to 2912 points, up from 2907.
In the women's long jump, two UNB athletes bettered what was MacDonald's school record(4.98m). Hailee Cook jumped 5.14m to make the first claim, but Victoria LeBlanc jumped 5.19m to become the new owner.
In the triple jump, Tess McDonald, who just a few weeks ago improved on her own school record, increased it again to 11.37m from 11.25m.
In only her second race as a VRed, Grace Annear laid claim to her first UNB record, covering the women's 600m in 1:33.37. Annear was the first university athlete across the line in the event.
The final school record came in the 4x200m relay.
The team of Victoria LeBlanc, Ashley Gallagher, Haliee Cook, and Tess McDonald ran 1:47.68, improving on the previous record of 1:49.08.
"The depth of field at this meet was huge and seeing our team finish 6th overall was great," said Varsity Reds head coach Jason Reindl. "Add five school records and I feel very good about where we are and what we can achieve over the next four weeks, heading into the AUS Championships."
