(MONCTON, N.B.) Coming off of final exams a small group of UNB women decided to take the opportunity to compete one last time in 2014. The Moncton Last Chance meet was the last track meet in Canada for the 2014 calendar year, and our athletes were eager to compete.
First year Sydney MacDonald took part in four events (60m, 60m hurdles, long jump, and shot put) and showed why she is one of the top rookies in the AUS conference. MacDonald's major focus is the pentathlon (60m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, and the 800m) and she will compete in her first university pentathlon at the McGill Team Challenge in January. For now she has been competing in individual events. The highlight for MacDonald was breaking her own UNB 60m hurdles record finishing with a time of 8.57s.
Captain Sarah Myatt competed in another 200m and 600m double winning both of them in times of 27.52s and 1:38.17s.
Second year Tess McDonald finished second in the triple jump and had a best of 10.80m just off of her school record of 11.05m. McDonald will be eager to extend this record as she prepares for the AUS championships in February.
Also competing for UNB were:
Nathalie Cecire 300m and 600m
Catherine Tremblay 300m
Emily Carr 60m
Fallon Gaudet Long Jump and Triple Jump
Brooke Gaudette Long Jump
Brittany Rioux 60m and Long Jump

"This time of the year is a tough one. Athletes are coming off of final exams and are gearing up for the holidays. For the athletes to come out and compete as well as they did is a huge accomplishment. 2015 is going to be very exciting for this squad," said head coach Jason Reindl.
The V-Reds compete next on January 17 when a small group will travel to Halifax for the Nova Scotia Open. The rest of the team will compete in Moncton again at the Moncton JSA Open.
