REDS 4th After Day One At Kemp-Fry
(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS sit fourth in the women’s team standings and fifth in the men’s standings after the first day of competition at the Kemp-Fry Invitational, the third event on the 2023-2024 Atlantic University Sport swimming schedule.
The highlight of the REDS evening was a third place finish in the women’s 4-by-200-metre freestyle relay. The UNB team of Elodie Martin, Emma Sinclair, Sophie Casey and Jessie Collett finished behind teams from Dalhousie and Acadia.
The majority of Friday’s events were heats in advance of Saturday finals.
Three REDS qualified from Friday’s preliminaries for ‘A’ finals on Saturday.
On the women’s side, Martin was 8th in the women’s 50-metre backstroke and will swim in Saturday’s ‘A’ final while Alexandra Quinn was 8th in the women’s 50-metre breaststroke to advance to the ‘A’ final.
UNB’s Blake Kingston was the only male to qualify for an ‘A’ final. He was 7th fastest in the prelims for the men’s 50-metre breaststroke.
Saturday’s prelims go at 10:00am, while Saturday’s finals begin at 5:00pm.
