Sanford Leads REDS
(HALIFAX, NS) Alexie Sanford led the UNB REDS with a pair of 4th place finishes on Day 2 of the Kemp-Fry Invitational, at Dalhousie, the third event on the Atlantic University Sport swimming schedule.
Sanford finished just off the podium in both the women's 50-metre and 200-metre freestyle finals.
In the 50-metre race, she finished 8/100ths of a second out of third place and just 4/10th of a second behind the winner. All eight swimmers in the 50-metre freestyle final finished within one second of each other.
In the 200-metre final, Sanford was just 6/10th of a second back of the third place swimmer.
Also on Saturday, Sydney Bewsher and Nikki Connors swam 7th and 8th in the women's 400-metre individual medley while Isabelle Stewart was 7th in the women's 100-metre butterfly final.
The UNB team of Sanford, Jesse Collett, Sophie Casey and Lauren Goodine were fourth in the women's 4 X 100-metre freestyle relay. UNB's men were 5th in their 4 X 100-metre freestyle relay.
The meet concludes on Sunday with morning and afternoon sessions.
Following two days of competition, the REDS are fourth in the women's standings, behind host Dalhousie, Memorial and Acadia. The UNB men are fifth, behind Dal, Acadia, Memorial and Mount Allison.
