REDS On Podium In Swimming Opener
(WOLFVILLE, NS) Day One of the 2021-22 Atlantic University Sport swimming season, at Acadia's Jack Scholz Invitational, began with a thunderous roar and lots of smiling faces. Saturday marked the first official in-person meet since February of 2020, and all the swimmers seemed to appreciate their return to the pool.
The UNB REDS recorded a number of podium finishes, including a third place finish in the women's 4-by-100 metre freestyle relay. The team of Lauren Goodine, Maggie Gray, Alexie Sanford and Sydney Bewsher finished behind teams from Dalhousie and Memorial.
Sanford also swam third in the women's 200-metre individual medley, while Sophie Casey was third in the women's 200-metre breaststroke.
Erik Staeben swam to a third place finish in the men's 50-metre butterfly.
In the team standings, UNB is fourth in the women's standings after Day One, fifth in the men's competition and fifth overall.
Dal leads both the women's and men's standings, while host Acadia is second in the men's competition and Memorial is second in the women's standings.
The meet concludes Sunday, at 10:00am, with the second and final day of competition.
