Three Varsity Reds Qualify For CIS Meet
(HALIFAX, NS) The AUS swimming championship wrapped up Sunday, the same way they have for over a decade. The Dalhousie Tigers won their 18th consecutive men's and 15th straight women's AUS titles.
In the first event of the night, Dalhousie's Katherine Webster won the 800m freestyle event, with teammate Claire Yurkovich and UNB's Kayla Martin placing second and third. All three swimmers posted CIS-qualifying times.
Zoee LeBlanc got Mount Allison's its first gold medal of the meet, winning the 50m breaststroke. UNB's Lauren Adam and Mt. A's Laurel White swam second and third respectively. It was a very tight race, with LeBlanc narrowly nosing Adam out by seven-tenths of a second.
UNB got their first gold of the night from Charli LeBlanc, in the women's 100m backstroke. She was followed by AUS rookie of the year Lise Cinq-Mars (Dalhousie) in second and Acadia's Rebecca MacPherson in third. All three posted CIS-qualifying times in the race.
Dalhousie swept the meet awards, claiming both rookie and swimmer of the year titles.
