(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS and St. Francis Xavier X-Women played to a 0-0 draw in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action Saturday evening at UNB's BMO Centre.
Both teams created opportunities, but neither side was able to break the deadlock. STFX's Aidan Miller (Chilliwack, BC) led the offensive push for the X-Women with four shots on target, all turned away by UNB goalkeeper Breanna Habinski (Welland, ON) who made eight saves to secure the shutout.
StFX goalkeeper Christina Gentile (Laval, QC) stopped three shots from the Reds, including early efforts from UNB's Heidi Lauwerijssen (Kensington, PE) and Jillian Curtis (Corpus Christi, TX).
The REDS finish the regular season with a 9-2-1 record, securing second place in the standings and a first-round bye in the AUS championship tournament, which will be held next weekend in Antigonish, NS. UNB will face a to-be-determined opponent in Friday's semi-final.
STFX, now 5-4-3, also moves on to the tournament but awaits confirmation of their seeding and first-round opponent, which will be announced on Sunday.
