(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds and Saint Mary's Huskies played to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon, at UNB's BMO Centre.
The point was the first for the Huskies this season.
MJ Miller(Hammonds Plains, NS) opened the scoring in the 8th minute, giving UNB a 1-0 lead.
Fiorella Morales(Bedford, NS) answered three minutes later to tie the game.
Jelisa Joncas(Burlington, ON) had a couple of chances in the final minutes for UNB, but couldn't break the deadlock.
Varsity Reds midfielder Paige Wilson(Fredericton, NB) was named the Subway Player of the Game.
"We were hoping for three points there, but it didn't happen," said Wilson. "We battled hard, but there were some things that just didn't go our way."
"I just found that we had a lot of possession, but didn't capitalize when we did," she said.
Rebecca Duda(Halifax, NS) made two saves on three shots in the Varsity Reds net.
Ashley Blank(Cole Harbour, NS) made six saves on seven shots in the Huskies net.
Blank, a third year Arts student, feels her teammates did well to bounce back after going down a goal early.
"It's hard, once you get scored on, to come back, but we got our heads up quickly and were able to capitalize," she said.
The Huskies travel to Moncton for a Sunday meeting with les Aigles Bleues.
The Varsity Reds play their final game of the regular season next Saturday, at Mount Allison.
"We're going to have to push hard next weekend to get the win and hope that the points that we've got are enough to get us into playoffs," said Wilson. "It's hard not having the control of making playoffs in our control."
