(WOLFVILLE, NS) Three second half goals proved too much for the UNB Varsity Reds, who dropped their 2017 Atlantic University Sport season-opener 3-0 at Acadia.
Jenna Boudreau(Halifax, NS) scored the eventual winner just five minutes into the second, on a decent solo effort off the end line. She finished with a low shot on a close angle that eluded VReds keeper Rebecca Duda(Halifax, NS).
Alexandra Scovil(Hubley, NS) and Annie Little(Calgary, AB) also scored for the Axewomen.
Acadia's Emily Nickerson(Coldbrook, NS) was the Subway Player of the Game.
"We definitely stuck with the game plan," said Nickerson. "We wanted to really put them under pressure in the middle. We're playing a new formation, so we're getting adjusted to that. We didn't want to give up and we were attacking, especially their wing backs. We were able to settle down and be really cohesive in the second half."
The Varsity Reds will look to rebound on Saturday when they face Dalhousie in a 3:00pm start.
Acadia plays host to Dal on Sunday.
