Varsity Reds Fall To Capers

(Sydney, NS) The Cape Breton University Capers beat the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, in front of 250 spectators at CBU Field, in Sydney.

For the Capers, Keona Simmonds(Brampton, ON) had a goal and an assist, while Chelsea Currie(Coxheath, NS) had the other goal.

Lauren Cubbon(Saskatoon, SK) scored for the Varsity Reds. Her goal came in the 42nd minute.

CBU's Becky Hanna(Howie Centre, NS) was named the Subway Player of the Game.

The defending conference champion Capers put 10 shots on the UNB net, while only allowing 5.

CBU controlled the majority of possession in the first half, before defending well in the second.

The Varsity Reds continue their season-opening road trip in Antigonish, on Sunday. The meet the St. FX X-Women, in a 1:00PM kick-off.

The Capers host UPEI.

UNB will play its home opener next Saturday, September 17th, when they host the Memorial Sea Hawks, at 1:00PM.
