Brianna Ford scores two in win over Memorial

The UNB Varsity Reds defeated the Memorial University Seahawks 2-1 in their first game of another double-header weekend.

Brianna Ford scored both goals for the University of New Brunswick, leading them to a victory.
 "I feel awesome," said Ford.

"I feel like we worked really well together today, and we really picked up the intensity and the speed."

The Seahawks scored at 3:23 giving them an early lead, but  UNB came back in the first half at 39:42 with a goal by Ford.

"[It] was a mistake on their part, and I just kinda got a toe on it and beat the keeper," she said.

The women kept took another goal early into the second half, in the 47 minute, giving UNB a 2-1 lead, which they would keep for the rest of the game.

Ford scored the second goal off a free kick from mid-fielder Lucy Parkin and walked the ball into the net.

"The second [goal] was a free kick from Lucy, so just kind of a hassle and a mix-up and I got a lucky touch."

A Halifax, N.S., native, Ford originally came to Fredericton for work and then decided to go back to school after the Varsity Reds previous coach, Andy Cameron, convinced Ford to play for the women's soccer team.

With four family members playing soccer, Ford said it just made sense to play soccer.

Loving to run around and to score goals kept her in the sport.

Ford said the win over the Seahawks was a good sign for the team and for the rest of the season.

"I think this is kind of the turning point for us, kinda half way through the season."
