Varsity Reds pay a visit to Forest Hill School
On Wednesday this week, the UNB Varsity Reds Women’s Soccer program took some time out of their busy schedule for a short trip to Forest Hill Elementary School. UNB’s Head Women’s Soccer Coach, Andy Cameron, gave 30 minute clinics to three classes of kindergarten students, seeing a total of about 60 students.
The Reds model their varsity program on three pillars of success: athletics, academics, and community. Normally recognized for their on field performance, the Varsity Reds have boasted an average of 52 Academic All-Canadians per year over the past four years (the highest in the AUS) and are continuously involved in many community initiatives just like the clinics offered at Forest Hill School.
Having a strong presence in the community is of vital importance to all of the varsity teams, as evidenced by women’s soccer Head Coach Andy Cameron. “It is always nice to connect with the soccer players of tomorrow and these clinics are a great way to do that”.
Vice-Principal and Physical Education teacher Kim Hawkes emphasized the strength of the relationship between UNB and the school community. “Forest Hill School values the partnership with community members such as coach Andy Cameron of the UNB women's soccer team who volunteered his time giving a soccer clinic to enthusiastic Kindergarten students. It truly enriches the school experience for all involved.”
The Varsity Reds will bring their regular season to a close this Saturday, when they host the UPEI Panthers at 1:00 PM at UNB’s Chapman Field.
