Women's Soccer 2009
August 1, 2009
The UNB Varsity Reds Women’s Soccer Team will be starting their training camp this year on August 29th. Although 7 players will not be returning from last year, things look promising for the upcoming season. The program is continuing to attract more players from outside the region and this year is no exception. Sierra Castonguay is expected into camp from British Columbia. She has a strong background in the game and is expected to contribute as a defender or a mid-fielder on this year’s team. From Ottawa, Ontario, Melissa Stapleton and Robyn Potter will be attending UNB and looking to contribute to the women’s soccer program. Melissa is a goalkeeper, presently playing for Kanata in the Ontario Youth Soccer league and Robyn is a striker with five years playing experience with the Ottawa Fury Soccer Club.
Two members of the NB Women’s Canada Games Team are coming to UNB in the Fall. Olivia Jennings, Bathurst and Sam Lagacy, Moncton will be pushing for starting positions on the squad. Olivia plays as an advanced mid-fielder and Sam plays at the back or in mid-field. Locally, Erin Fenety and Kassia Jurcina will also be pushing the veterans for spots on the team. Erin has played this summer on the Fredericton Reds team and Kassia plays for the FDSA U18 Provincial Championship Team.
