(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS needed a shootouot to beat the visiting Bishop's Gaiters 3-2 Friday, in U SPORTS exhibition women's hockey action at UNB's Aitken Centre.

The visitors opened the scoring on three-on-one opportunity at 14:18 in the second period. Gabrielle Santerre (Sherbrooke, QC) used her teammates as decoys before sliding the puck through the legs of REDS goaltender Kendra Woodland (Kamloops, BC).

Sydney Oitomen (Mississauga, ON) pulled the REDS even a short time later with a low shot.

REDS forward Lily George (Nipissing First Nation) found a rebound and backhanded it in to give the REDS the lead early in the third period.

Just as the final period was coming to a close, at 19:39, Marie-Camille Theoret (Magog, QC), buried a breakaway goal, tying the game.

Overtime was inconclusive and the teams needed a shootout to settle the game.

George and REDS newcomer Katelyn Scott (Almonte, ON) scored to give the hosts the win.

The REDS continue their exhibition season on Sunday when they host the St. Thomas Tommies at 2:00pm at the Aitken Centre.

The Gaiters visit the Tommies on Saturday.
