(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE) The UNB REDS proved why they are the No. 1 team in Atlantic University Sport, putting on an offensive clinic against the UPEI Panthers, in Charlottetown.

The first period was close, as the REDS only led 1-0 after Jorja Nystrom (Leduc, AB) buried her own rebound at the 12:12 mark.

Even though the REDS were up, the Panthers actually led 8-5 in shots after 20 minutes.

Then the second period happened.

UNB lit the lamp four times, extending their lead to 5-0.

Lauren Carter (Milton, ON) started the scoring run at the 7:01 mark on a cross ice pass from Tamina Kehler (Chilliwack, BC), beating Sarah Forsythe (Riverview, NB).

The third and fourth goals of the night came from Melanie Drost (Nepean, ON), now tied for the team lead in playoff scoring with two goal and two assists.

After a couple more goals and a goalie change for the Panthers, Nystrom got her second of the game on a beautiful tip.

The REDS didn't let up in the third period, adding two more goals.

Carter scored her second of the night at the 3:05 mark.

Less than two minutes later, Sydney Oitomen (Mississauga, ON) got UNB's seventh goal.

Up 7-0, the REDS coasted the rest of the way, but allowed a late goal by UPEI's Taylor Gillis (Summerside, PE) to make the final score 7-1.

UNB can close out the series and move onto the AUS Championship on Sunday, while the Panthers will look to force a fifth game.

Sunday's game is scheduled 7:00pm.
